Through a haze of cannabis smoke, Paul Downey rolls another joint, lights up, inhales and then declares: "Weed is my medicine."

The defiant dope user is happy being photographed puffing on marijuana in his living room despite being warned by judges and cops that he faces jail if he sticks with the habit.

Pot-head Paul has narrowly escaped jail at least twice in the past three years after being caught with stashes of dope in his home. But the disabled dad insists the only way the authorities can stop him smoking is by slinging him in the slammer. He says he needs the drug to dull his pain, battle depression and stop him from "going mad".
