Australia: Mine accident survivor grew cannabis 'to cope'
ABC News Sunday 06 Jun 2010 John Paul Harrison pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Hobart to one count of cultivating a controlled substance. Police raided the 50 year old's Sandy Bay home in March this year finding 140 cannabis plants in two growing rooms with an estimated street value of between $42,000 and $65,000. Harrison's lawyer told the court the cannabis was for his client's personal consumption to help him cope with the emotional and physical scars from a coal mine cave-in in Queensland in the early 1990's. He said Harrison, who was working as a miner, was buried above his head and lost two colleagues in the accident. Harrison will be sentenced next week. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/06/07/2920159.htm
