US: Some 400 Cannabis Dispensaries Ordered To Close

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Monday was D-Day in the Los Angeles medical marijuana wars: A new ordinance went into effect yesterday morning, requiring that more than 400 unauthorized medical marijuana dispensaries to close their doors, immediately.
Last Friday, a Superior Court judge rejected a last-minute legal bid to delay implementation of the new city code.
The targeted pot shops all opened after November 2007, when the Los Angeles City Council approved a widely-ignored moratorium on new medicinal marijuana outlets.
An estimated 130 storefronts which were around before then will be allowed to stay open.
But, they'll have to register with the city and will be subject to inspections.
