US: Legal Cannabis Institute Offers Classes About Pot
San Diego News Monday 28 Jun 2010 "We get a lot of people trying to start new businesses [and with] the economy down, people are looking for opportunities…entrepreneurial opportunities," said Nicole Scott of the Legal Cannabis Institute. Scott founded the institute to help people understand the confusing laws currently on the books. "The laws are really confusing right now because we don't have any and we're currently working with the city and state and county to enact ordinances that we can all live with," she said. Scott's institute offers 11 classes from growing techniques to cooking and preparing edible cannabis treats to the science of cannabis. Three law classes are also taught by legal cannabis attorneys such as Kimberly Simms, who said she was here to set a more professional standard for the industry. "I think for the right people who are willing to take the right steps, get educated on laws, it can be a wonderful opportunity," said Simms. Simms said she makes it clear to her students that the sale of marijuana in Californian is still illegal for all purposes and also explains that marijuana collectives are a non-profit business. "It's not a sale that's being made, it's a donation transaction," said Simms. "I'm going to give you an eighth in exchange for $60. This $60 is what I need to pay my bills in order for to keep providing you safe access." Christa Jackson attended the class on Saturday, not looking to open a collective, but showed up for information on what she saw as a potential future money maker. "It's a growing industry," she said. "So I want to be involved." http://www.10news.com/news/24056836/detail.html
