UK: Cannabis Community Off-Loads Lib-Dem Stock

Sunday 19 Sep 2010

The cannabis community in the UK, which numbers over 6 million regular users of cannabis, has for the most part, thrown its collective weight behind the Liberal-Democrats, as a result of the well known Lib-Dem manifesto which pledged to decriminalise the personal supply, possesion and use of cannabis in a bid to break the link between otherwise law abiding cannabis users and organised crime/drug dealing.

But thats all changed since the Lib-dem leadership struck a deal with the Conservatives to form a coalition government, and its starting to show in the official statistics.

Since the Lib-Dems formed a government with the tories the party's polling figures have been in free-fall having slumped from 22% at the General Election to as low as 12% currently.
The Lib Dems never were and aren't a receptacle for left wing dissatisfaction with the Labour Party. There is no future for that; there never was." Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg
Soon after the post-election deal was rubber stamped the Lib-dems changed their manifesto so it read more like drug policy one of the other two Westminster parties may have written.

An accusation which stands even firmer as the long-term plan for the Lib-dems - a change to a 'Proportional Representation' voting system as opposed to our current, flaky and aged system, looks set to be 'changed', to the conservative backed 'Alternative Vote' system, starting with a 'Say Yes on AV' rally which Nick Clegg will host at the party conference.

Party members are so incensed with Nick Clegg and his cronies they have pledged to attend this years Party Conference in Liverpool, in numbers, (6,200 delegates, up 40% from last year).

Many are turning up simply to voice their 'ire' at a leadership which has backed a host of savage public cuts, whilst covertly backing the tory plan for a like-for-like replacement for Trident, instead of what the Lib-dem faithful support, which is a cheaper alternative.

But like every 'snake-in-the-grass' politician who told lies to gain votes, Nick Clegg has a plan to circumnavigate his hostile party members - by not being there.

After his speech on Monday, the Deputy Prime Minister will head for the US on 'Government business', leaving the 6,200 delegates - a 40% increase on last year and the most in Lib Dem history - to pick over the political fallout from his actions.

So if you are a regular cannabis user who voted for the Lib-Dems don't feel hard done by, as Mr Clegg is deserting not only you for the blue, but his party members too.

Cannazine Cannabis News contacted the welsh lib-Dems recently, to ask what direction they intended to take Wales over the coming years with regard to cannabis and the law.

They never answered. Indeed of the four main parties in Wales, only Plaid Cymru had the conviction of belief to announce, 'Cannabis will be decriminalised under a Plaid government given the power to actually govern'.
