UK: Tiptree man grew cannabis to treat a bad back
Chelmsford Weekly News Thursday 16 Sep 2010 Kevin Kramer suffers from spondylosis at the base of his spine, and told Colchester magistrates he self-medicated with the illegal drug to ease his symptoms. Police found plants, cannabis and lighting equipment at the 36-year-old man’s house in Station Road, Tiptree. Kramer admitted cultivating cannabis for personal use. His lawyer, Julie Brice, said he was on a large amount of prescription medication, but smoked cannabis as a muscle relaxant. She said he was due to have an operation on his back on October 17. Mrs Brice said before his back became too bad for him to work, Kramer had been a master baker and a tyre fitter. He was keen to get back to work again as soon as he was fit. His latest offence was in breach of a two-year conditional discharge given to him by the court for similar offences. Magistrates told Kramer because of the previous offences, they were giving him a two-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, but said he could have expected a stiffer sentence, but for his medical condition. They also placed him under a curfew between 8pm and 8am for three months. http://www.chelmsfordweeklynews.co.uk/news/colchester/8395645.Man_grew_cannabis_to_treat_a_bad_back/
