Switzerland: Court says doctors must force-feed

The Federal Supreme Court has ruled that doctors can be forced to force-feed a patient on a hunger strike.

The court said doctors can't use directives from the Swiss Academy of Medical Science as a shield.

The ruling relates to the case of the marijuana activist from Valais, Bernard Rappaz.

He’s currently on a hunger strike to protest his conviction on drug crimes.

And he's been admitted to Geneva's cantonal hospital for hypoglycemia.

The Swiss Medical Association says the court’s ruling is medically unethical.
