Finland: Long prison sentences for cannabis imports
HELSINGIN SANOMAT Thursday 25 Nov 2010 Milko Castaing, 42, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for six counts of aggravated drug crime. Daniel Rikhye, 32, was given eight and a half years for complicity in the same crimes. Both men are Dutch citizens. They denied all charges in court. The court found that the men had arranged a total of six smuggling trips last year, delivering more than 1.5 tonnes of hashish and marijuana from The Netherlands to four countries. More than 220 kilos of hashish were brought to Finland in two consignments. More than 710 kg. were smuggled to Sweden, and nearly 420 to Norway. In addition, a load of marijuana of more than 160 kg. was smuggled to Britain. The court found that Castaing organised and directed the operation, and Rikhye helped him by recruiting two transport companies for the operation. The haulage firms were in the name of two other men. They were also accused of complicity, but the court acquitted them. Police got on the trail of the Finnish branch of the operation in the spring of 2009 when a Finnish man was found dead at the wheel of a car in Inkoo, west of Helsinki. The car had 150 kg. of hashish inside, and another consignment of more than 70 kg. was seized a couple of months later. http://www.hs.fi/english/article/Long+prison+sentences+for+cannabis+imports/1135261906277
