Switzerland: Rappaz takes his case to Strasbourg

World Radio Switzerland

Friday 10 Dec 2010

A lawyer representing the cannabis farmer Bernard Rappaz says his client is taking his case to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

Aba Neeman says the move comes after Switzerland's highest court rejected his client's appeal for a pardon earlier this week.

Rappaz has been on a hunger strike but his lawyer says he is now taking vitamin tablets and drinking sugared tea.

Rappaz was sentenced to five years and eight months behind bars for various offences, including trading in cannabis.
