Guatemala: Belizean Man Freed of Charges

LoveFM News

Wednesday 05 Jan 2011

After spending one month in confinement at a Guatemalan Prison because of a bag that contained 260 grams of cannabis, which the authorities believed was his, twenty two year old Oscar Dennis Gonguez was fully freed of the charge today. Family friend and freelance journalist residing in Guatemala, Joseph Budna gave us this update.

"Well the case was set for today, to finalize the situation with Oscar Dennis Gonguez as you may recall he was released last week. A document was read out whereby it stated that Dennis Gonguez has nothing to do with the Guatemalan authorities, that his freedom is final that he has nothing to face so he can come over to Guatemala as a tourist as anybody else and he has nothing to face with the law. That is just to finalize his freedom as of today. In court was myself and the defense attorney and along with her was the judge who did this reading out today and handed copies to me."

The final decision was read by Judge Sonia Osorio Casteneda. When Love News spoke to Gonguez in the front yard of his family's two-storey home deep in the Port Loyola area of Belize City on December 30th, Dennis stated that he has no plans to go back to Guatemala again.
