Borneo: Planting canabis: Couple faces life term Anasathia Jenis Borneo Post Friday 28 Jan 2011 Tajol Ashikin Tambi, 24, and Rozaimah Mat, 27, from Kampung Semariang Baru pleaded guilty to the charges framed against them. Judge Shahrizat Ismail reserved Feb 7 to 11 this year for the hearing of the case. She also ordered the couple to be further remanded in police custody as the offence is unbailable. Tajol and wife Rozaimah were found in possession of 53.81g of cannabis at 12.30pm on Jan 12. They had planted them at their house in Kampung Semariang Batu. Possessing cannabis comes under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952 which is punishable under Section 39A(2) DDA read together with Section 34 of the same Act. Section 34 carries a life sentence and a minimum imprisonment of not less than five years or with not less than 10 strokes of the rotan upon conviction. They were also charged with planting cannabis plants, an offence that comes under Section 6B(1) (a) of the DDA and punishable under Section 6B (3) which carries a life imprisonment or with not less than six strokes of the rotan upon conviction.
