Czech: Public Affairs supports partial legalisation of marihuana

The Czech Public Affairs (VV) party wants to legalise marihuana for medical purposes, daily Mlada fronta Dnes (MfD) writes yesterday.

Kristyna Koci, chairwoman of the VV deputies' group, said even the Health Ministry had admitted that cannabis had a positive effect when treating some diseases.

"I will discuss the issue in the coalition and we will probably prepare a deputies' draft legislation," Koci told the paper.

However, the VV does not big marihuana plantations to exist directly in the Czech Republic.

"This could be abused for nonmedical purposes. The state is to buy marihuana abroad, preferably in the Netherlands," VV medial expert Jiri Stetina told the paper.

MfD said it was likely that if marihuana were authorised in the medical sphere, the pressure of civic groups to legalise the cannabis fully would increase and marihuana would perhaps be sold in the same way as alcohol.

"We have not gone so far. The question is very premature. Personally, I am not any big proponent of decriminalisation of soft drugs, but this will depend on further discussion in the party," Koci said.
