UK: Milford Haven cannabis smoker cleared of dealing

Milford and West Wales Mercury

Wednesday 02 Feb 2011

A Milford Haven man who smoked cannabis resin to ease his pain has been cleared of dealing the Class B drug.

Police twice found resin cut into pieces and wrapped when they called at the home of Brian Brynmor Codd in Vaynor Road.

Codd admitted possessing the drug on both occasions, but denied intending to sell any of the packages.

Creighton Harvey, prosecuting at Swansea Crown Court, said police raided Codd’s home in December 2009 and September last year.

In the December raid they found nine pieces of cannabis in a tin and 15 pieces in a carrier bag, and in September they found a quantity of cannabis hidden inside a loaf of bread.

The 40-year-old told police he had wrapped the cannabis himself.

Mr Harvey told the jury last Thursday that Codd had been trying to protect himself in case police found his fingerprints on the individual parcels.

Codd told the court he had been using the drug for five years to ease the effects of a spinal disease, but he never dealt in the drug.

He said he had bought a larger than normal quantity because his dealer had told him cannabis would be harder to get hold of in the future.

Codd was granted bail and will be sentenced early next month for possessing the drugs.
