US: Federal medical marijuana patient says he is living proof cannabis works

BILLINGS - There are almost 29,000 card-carrying medical marijuana patients in Montana. While their cards may be legal here in the state, the use of cannabis is considered illegal at the federal level. However, there are a handful of people who the government has okayed to use the drug, and one of those patients is visiting the Treasure State.

Irvin Rosenfeld has a severe bone disorder and is the longest surviving patient of a program called Compassionate Care Investigational New Drug from the 80's. There are just four survivors left from the original group of 13.

He says the government grows the plant in Mississippi, makes into a cigarette form, and sends a tin can of it to him every 25 days. Rosenfeld believes medical cannabis needs to gain more legitimacy with doctors and nurses, so it becomes more of a medicine.

Rosenfeld was in Billings Tuesday evening meeting with local residents as a part of Politics in the Pub at Bones Brewing and then was heading to the state legislature Wednesday.
