Glinton "Punki" O'Marde, owner of the nightclub in Gray's Farm where illegal drugs, guns and ammunition were recently seized, has been slapped with six charges related to the bust that occurred Friday morning.

O'Marde, of Belmont, who owns the People’s Choice Nightclub, has been jointly charged with Steveroy Benjamin Gerald of Pigotts for unlawfully possessing 45 grammes of cannabis and possession with intent to transfer the said quantity.

The businessman was further jointly charged with Akeem Cleohorn of Belmont for possession of a .32 firearm and possession of five rounds of matching ammunition, possession of a .357 revolver and seven similar rounds of ammunition.

Around 2 am Friday, lawmen from several departments executed a search warrant at the club. During the operation, the unlawful items were unearthed. Eight persons were initially detained, including two 15-year-old schoolgirls. However, all but the trio were released on the weekend.

According to the Police Strategic Communications Division (STRATCOM), the Royal Police Force of Antigua & Barbuda has increased stop-and-search exercises and the execution of search warrants at residential homes, nightclubs and other places over the past week as part of the effort to eradicate crime.

The lawmen continue to appeal to the public for support in bringing offenders to justice.
