Thursday 21 Apr 2011

Legalize Louisiana, which drew hundreds for a marijuana legalization march in Lafayette earlier this year, will join with groups from throughout the state for a march and music program today.

Similar events are also planned in Shreveport, Baton Rouge, Lake Charles, Monroe and New Orleans. Locally, marchers will assemble at the Girard Park pond for a 3 p.m. march though the UL campus to the Lafaytte Parish Courthouse, where speakers will urge what they consider more sensible drug policies.

Dave Lucito, one of the organizers of the local event, urged participants not to bring their cars to the park as that is forbidden by their permit.

"Please carpool, bike and walk to the park. There is ample, free parking available in the area, including the lot at Grant Street Dance Hall, where a cannabis-awareness concert will follow the afternoon's exercises."

He said the Legalize Louisiana 420 concert after the rally will feature hours of music by groups such as Black Feratu, Hip Hop in the Flats, Brass Mimosa, El Domania, Riffs of Griff, deathbeforedisco, Blu Logic and Jake Townsend.
