Cannabis as cancer cure?

on Wednesday, June 15 at the Santa Rosa Days Inn, 3345 Santa Rosa Avenue, at 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 19, at the Arlene Francis Theater, 99 West 6th Street, at 3 p.m.

"An excellent documentary film that summarizes the remarkable research findings of recent years about the cancer-protective effects of novel compounds in marijuana," The Huffington Post said. "The film presents compelling evidence that our current policy on cannabis counterproductive."

The documentary viewings are being hosted by Americans for Safe Access and the Sonoma Alliance for Medical Marijuana. Dr. Jeffrey Hergenrather who was interviewed in the film, Robert Jacob, Executive Director of local dispensaries Peace in Medicine and cancer survivors will answer questions and lead a discussion about the benefits of cannabis following the viewings. The events are open to the public and refreshments will be served.

The director's website describes the film as using original and archival footage, to present the controversial and convincing evidence that this forbidden herb has healing properties beyond any other plant on the planet— interacting as it does with the body's own "endocannabinoid system" to keep us fit and disease-free.

"What if Cannabis Cured Cancer" explains how we are all born with a form of marijuana already in our bodies, and when pot is consumed, the "endocannabinoids" inside us—along with any cannabinoids we ingest—fit together like a key in a lock.

Following the screening of the documentary at the 2010 Sausalito Film Festival, four distinguished to discuss the film and its implications for cancer treatment. They include Dr. Donald Abrams, M.D. (Professor of Clinical Medicine and Integrative Oncology, University of California, San Francisco), Dr. Sean D. McAllister (PhD, researcher at the California Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco), Dr. Jeffrey Hergenrather, M.D. (a California physician treating cancer patients with cannabis), and filmmaker Len Richmond.
