UK: Drug-user grew plants to save cash
Thisislincolnshire Saturday 18 Jun 2011 Hughie Steele was caught after police raided the travellers' site where he was living as part of an unconnected investigation. Andrew Scott, prosecuting, told Lincoln Crown Court that officers checked out a static caravan on the site just off the A17 at Beckingham and discovered a mini-cannabis farm. "There were lights, a transformer, air filters and extraction fans – 25 cannabis plants were found. "The static caravan was linked by a power cable to the caravan occupied by this defendant." Later, Steele admitted the cannabis plants were his. Mr Scott said: "He said he grew the plants for his personal consumption. He purchased the plants two weeks earlier. He said he was using £20 to £30 worth of cannabis a day and had been a cannabis user for a long time." Steele, 20, of Orchard Park, Poplar Meadow, Sleaford Road, Beckingham, admitted unlawful production of cannabis in August 2010. http://www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk/Drug-user-grew-plants-save-cash/story-12794237-detail/story.html
