Australia: Drug dogs bust 74-year-old Australian woman

SYDNEY - An elderly Australian woman was charged with drug dealing after being nabbed with more than 40 bags of cannabis in her handbag by drug dogs at Sydney's main rail station, police said Wednesday.

The 74-year-old was stopped and searched by officers after attracting the attention of sniffer dogs near Central Station on Tuesday, police said.

"Police allegedly found more than 40 small resealable bags containing cannabis in the woman's handbag," they said in a statement.

A search of her home in a neighbouring suburb uncovered more cannabis and plastic bags.

She was charged with possessing and supplying a prohibited drug.

"It certainly wasn't what they were expecting," said police inspector Mark Christie of the unusual bust.

"That's the benefit we get from these drug dog operations. They pick up the scent not the individual."
