Lebanon: Authorities destroy more cannabis fields

BEIRUT: The Drug Control Office of the Internal Security Forces destroyed 1,080 dunums of cannabis plantations in the Bekaa Friday, said a statement released by the Directorate General of the ISF.

According to the statement, the operation to destroy illegal cannabis took place in five areas in the Bekaa.

The ISf said 130 dunums were destroyed in Jroud Wadi al-Nira, along with 200 dunums in Souwah Dandash, 200 dunums in Kitaf Jibab al-Homr, 150 dunums in Souwah and another 400 dunums in the town of Deir al-Ahmar.

The statement also said that the destruction of illegal crops would continue to be carried out with the assistance of the Lebanese Army throughout the country.

Meanwhile, the state-run National News Agency said Friday that the criminal court of the Bekaa convicted 26 individuals with dealing drugs, while another five individuals were found guilty of theft.

"One drug dealer received five years of hard labor and LL 25 million [fine], a thief received three years of hard labor and another person involved in theft received a life sentence of hard labor," said the NNA adding, that another three thieves received a year of hard labor.
