Malta: Quarrel over price of cannabis

The Malta Independent On-Line

Saturday 13 Aug 2011

A quarrel over the price of cannabis led to Msida resident Malik Ahmed Mohammed, 29, of Chad, being sentenced to one year's jail, suspended for a year, after pleading guilty to injuring a man.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi heard that last Wednesday in St Julian's Mr Mohammed hit out with a penknife at John Chibuzor Bolenus.

The two quarrelled after Mr Bolenus approached Mr Mohammed to buy some drug from him. Mr Bolenus was asked for €100 but said the drug did not cost more than €25, with the accused taking the €100 and not giving any change.

In the argument which followed, Mr Mohammed knifed Mr Bolenus in the stomach. The accused also admitted he threatened his victim and that he broke the public peace by shouting and fighting.

Legal aid lawyer Renzo Porsella Flores was defence counsel. The prosecution was led by Inspector Nikolai Sant.
