Malta: One-year jail term for attempt to sell cannabis to teenagers

The Malta Independent On-Line

Saturday 13 Aug 2011

Stephen Nappa, 30, of Valletta was sentenced to a one-year jail term by Magistrate Antonio Mizzi after pleading guilty to trying to sell cannabis to three 14-year-old Spanish students, and to a pregnant woman.

The offence was committed on Tuesday when Nappa approached the three students, who are in Malta to study English, and offered them the drug. They refused and reported the matter to the police, who launched an investigation.

The accused also admitted he was a relapser and that he had cannabis resin which he tried to sell to an under-aged person and to a pregnant woman on a drug rehabilitation course.

Magistrate Mizzi recommended to the Director of Prisons that Nappa, who was defended by Dr José Herrera, should start a rehabilitation programme.

The prosecution was led by Inspector James Grech.
