UK: Cumbrian man fined for cannabis drug offence
News and Star, Carlisle Tuesday 16 Aug 2011 Ian Lowrey, 38, of Tennyson Drive, was fined £70 by West Cumbria magistrates after he admitted possessing £5 of cannabis and £5 of cannabis resin. The court heard that Lowrey was driving when he was stopped by police outside his home. Officers asked him if he had any drugs and he handed over a tin containing the cannabis. His home was then searched and the cannabis resin found. Valerie Hendren, defending, said Lowrey suffered from depression and found cannabis helped him. She said his girlfriend was due to give birth soon and he had been terrified he could go to prison because of the offence as it had not been clear whether he was still subject to a suspended sentence order. He wasn't. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 surcharge http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/man-fined-for-cannabis-drug-offence-1.868382?referrerPath=news
