UK: Penarth teenager jailed for possessing drugs with intent to supply

A PENARTH teenager has been jailed for ten months for possessing 27 bags of cannabis with intent to supply.

Ashley Mark Thompson, aged 18, of Owain Close, pleaded guilty to the charge after his arrest on June 29, and appeared at Cardiff Crown Court for sentencing yesterday (Wednesday).

The court heard he had made 16 previous appearances before the courts for 21 offences, including six relating to drugs.

In mitigation, Adam Sharpe said Thompson was battling an entrenched cannabis addiction developed since the age of 13, and was a man 'of some industry' who had applied to join the armed forces but had been denied.

However, sentencing him to custody, Judge Patrick Curran QC said Thompson was 'wholly unwilling to comply with other previous measures imposed to prevent re-offending'.
