Welsh author, teacher, comedian, campaigner and drugs smuggler Howard Marks is coming to Nottingham

Howard MarksHoward Marks definitely has a story or two to tell. He first came to our attention through a number of high profile court cases back in the 80s, which earned him the accolade of 'most sophisticated drugs baron of all time', and provided the premise for his alias, Mr Nice.

Indeed, following his release from prison (after serving a seven year stint in the US), he released his autobiography – also called Mr Nice - which charts his life as an international cannabis smuggler. You may be familiar with the film version, which hit our screens last year and saw Rhys Ifans mumbling his way through the title role.

Nowadays, Marks is just as well known for his presence on the comedy circuit and UK Dub Step scene, as for his notoriety as a dealer. His one-man comedy show is now legendary: what started out as a bit of a rant about drug use and the legalisation of marijuana is now more often than not a sell-out and tackles an ever-widening range of topics.

His varied life experience and candid recounting of it should make for an interesting evening. But don’t be fooled by his mild-mannered Welsh charm; this raconteur no doubt has some tales to make your eyes water.

Howard Marks will appear at The Glee Club, Nottingham on Wednesday 28th September as part of the Nottingham Comedy Festival.
