Malaysia: Car Washer Gets 10 Years, 10 Strokes For Cannabis Possession

SHAH ALAM, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- A 27- year-old car washer was jailed 10 years and ordered to be whipped 10 times by the High Court here today for possession of 379gm of cannabis.

Rosli Ithnin committed the offence at the Shell petrol station in Taman Seri Manja, Petaling Jaya near here about 7.30pm on June 11, 2010.

According to the facts of the case, he was arrested at a roadblock when he refused to get out of his car as ordered.

Police found the drugs in a package on his lap when they forcibly broke the car window.

Rosli, who was initially charged with trafficking in drugs, was represented by counsel Richard Ho while Deputy Public Prosecutor Ridha Abdah Subri prosecuted.

Judge Datuk Mariah Ahmad ordered the jail term to run from the date of his arrest.
