US: Marijuana legalization activist, facing trial, campaigns for N.J. Assembly Matt Katz Philadelphia Inquirer Wednesday 19 Oct 2011 Since last spring, the Weedman said, he has mailed one gram of weed ("Enough for a fattie") to 15 public officials, from the state attorney general to the Burlington County prosecutor to Gov. Christie himself. None has been returned, he said. "The governor should get high, loosen up a little bit, relax," Forchion said. At a Tuesday afternoon news conference, Christie said he had not received the marijuana, and then he joked about the staff of his Office of Constituent Relations recently failing drug tests. Forchion, of Pemberton Township, is due to go on trial later this week in Burlington County. He was stopped as he drove around Mount Holly last year, allegedly in possession of one pound of marijuana. Forchion spent Tuesday passing out fliers promoting his website and his independent candidacy for the state Assembly in the Eighth Legislative District. "I do expect a bunch of potheads to vote for me, and I use 'potheads' in a positive way," he said by phone. Forchion has run numerous times in New Jersey. And although he now lives in California, unlike another legislative candidate in the same district - Olympian Carl Lewis - Forchion's candidacy has not been challenged. But Christie still doubted his chances. "He's going to lose," the governor said. As for the pending trial, Forchion is representing himself, as he has in the past, and he hopes to pick pothead jurors using his "pot-dar." The dope, sent from Weedman's home in California, comes in a medicine bottle with a letter that misspells Christie's name and misstates Christie's former law enforcement job, which was U.S. attorney. Weedman calls Christie a "fat hypocrite." Christie is reluctantly allowing a medical-marijuana law to go into effect in New Jersey. Stricter than the law originally signed by his predecessor, it allows six dispensaries. Last week, Maple Shade Township rejected a plan to put the first dispensary on Route 73. Forchion, who says he uses the weed to control the growth of tumors in his body, said that he smoked Tuesday morning and planned to light up a joint outside the courthouse in Mount Holly. "Even if a cop did come, I would eat it," he said. Forchion was hoping that the mailed packages of cannabis would bring another drug charge, which he would then fight in front of a jury. So he was happy about Tuesday's publicity. "Until just a couple of days ago, I was wondering if it was just a waste of weed," he said. The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office would not comment on any pending charges related to Forchion's stunt - nor would a spokesman confirm that the prosecutor received a gram of the Weedman's weed. http://www.philly.com/philly/news/new_jersey/132110518.html
