N Ireland: Man who stored cannabis avoids prison sentence

Belfast Telegraph

Wednesday 19 Oct 2011

A man who admitted storing almost two kilos of cannabis walked free from court yesterday after he was ordered to complete 100 hours of community service and 18 months’ probation.

Her Honour Judge Kennedy told 33-year-old Patrick Joseph McMahon the combination order was not "a soft option" as he would have to undertake unpaid work and that any breach or failure to comply would result in him being re-sentenced.

Earlier, Belfast Crown Court heard that police went to his flat on the Cliftonville Road looking for his brother Paul, as there was a warrant for his arrest.

The court heard officers found Paul McMahon in the roofspace, but their search also uncovered three bags of herbal cannabis.

A further search revealed another cache of herbal cannabis hidden beneath the sink.
