Canada: Prohibition increases youth drug risks Judith Renaud M.A., Comox Valley Echo Canada.com Friday 21 Oct 2011 Public education lacks funding. Our schools scrape by with little or no funding for health-based compassionate drug education programs. The Conservative government's mandatory minimum Bill C-10 will take millions away from funding our schools and health programs and will use that money to build prisons. Cannabis should be legalized, controlled and regulated because it is potentially harmful to young people. If we legalize cannabis our students will be able to concentrate better at school when their non-violent parents are not in jail for marijuana; having a parent in jail leads to family poverty. Hungry kids can't concentrate. Prohibition means that organized crime controls the market, drug dealers do not ask for ID. They will sell anything to anyone who has the cash. Prohibition means organized crime gets wealthy and young people find that 'bling' attractive. Is organized crime the business career we want for our youth? Our government thinks so. Prohibition is making our children sick, sad and unsafe.
