UK: £100k cannabis haul is third on same estate

Clacton Gazette

Thursday 10 Nov 2011

CANNABIS with a street value of more than £100,000 UKP has been discovered in a Clacton industrial estate.

The bust was the third at the Gorse Lane estate in two months.

Police officers on a routine patrol found 500 cannabis plants in a unit in Stephenson Road, just before 6pm on Monday.

The discovery was just yards away from a similar find on November 1, when £50,000 UKP worth of cannabis was seized from an industrial unit in nearby Faraday Close.

Three men were charged with possessing a class B drug with intent to supply after that incident, but police have not made any arrests after Monday's find.

A spokesman said: "Detectives are now trying to identify who the cultivators are."

Colin Ginn, manager of Prestige Coachworks which is based on Stephenson Road said the discoveries were giving the estate a bad name.

"You can't stop people doing it, that's the problem," he said.

"The policing round here is good, it's just people are going to do these things."

In October police found 250 plants less than a mile away in Telford Road.

A sophisticated production operation of lights and a chemical feeding system was also found. The street value of the drugs seized then was estimated at £60,000 UKP.
