KALISPELL- A day after several Western Montana medical marijuana businesses were raided by the federal government the Montana cannabis industry is speaking out.

Kate Cholewa with the Montana Cannabis Industry Association has confirmed with us that Big Sky Health and Kind Caregivers in Missoula as well as and Glacier Health in Kalispell were all raided in Wednesday's federal sting.

Montana U.S. Attorney General said In a news release that the search warrants were based on judicial findings, which gave probable cause to believe these Montana locations were involved in criminal enterprises and therefore violated the Federal Controlled Substances Act.

Cholewa likened the raids to those done during prohibition, although the science around medical marijuana shows the link between pain relief and chronic illness.

"An injustice is done to Montana when we have these federal raids, because we do have a medical marijuana law here in Montana. It is something the citizens wanted. The legislature went through an insane process creating a law, which is not a very good law. But none of that matters once the feds come in. Because once you're dealing with federal charges. There's no such thing as medical marijuana."
