UK: Firm boss in court over drugs haul
Lancashire Evening Post Tuesday 22 Nov 2011 Ribble Valley business boss Nigel Monk, 43, of Southport House, Sawley, near Clitheroe, and Thomas Beard, 50, and his son Thomas Beard jnr, 28, of Acorn Lodge Stables, Longsight Road, Clayton-le-Dale, are jointly charged with conspiracy to supply 113.5 kgs of cannabis at Sawley and other places. The court heard the offences are alleged to have happened between October 1 and November 16. Catherine Allan, prosecuting, told Blackburn Magistrates' Court police had recovered 454 nine ounce bars of cannabis with a street value of £320,000. The drugs were hidden inside planters delivered by a lorry to an address in Sawley as part of a consignment of "garden supplies". The goods had originally been despatched from Spain and came to the Ribble Valley via Scotland. All three men were sent in custody to Preston Crown Court. Monk runs a plant hire business from Lower White Carr Farm in Whalley. http://www.lep.co.uk/news/local/firm_boss_in_court_over_drugs_haul_1_3990761
