Ireland: Police Target Drug Trade Across Ireland
Build.ie Tuesday 29 Nov 2011 A similar operation took place along the border with the North as well. Officers from the Anglesea Street Drug Unit stopped a car at Sallybrook, Glanmire yesterday afternoon and cannabis herb with an estimated street value of up to E380,000 was seized and the male driver, who was in his 30s and the sole occupant, was arrested at the scene. In a follow up operation yesterday afternoon, with the assistance of Gardai from Cobh, a house was searched in the Carrigtwohill area and further controlled drugs consisting of cannabis and cocaine with an estimated street value of up to E210,000 was also seized. The male arrested is currently detained at Cobh Garda Station under Section 2 of The Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996. Meanwhile, as part of an intelligence-led operation, members from the Gardaí National Drugs Unit and Dundalk Gardaí carried out a search of a dwelling at Seatown, Dundalk, Co. Louth on Monday morning. During the search a substantial cannabis cultivation site was discovered in the dwelling house. Approximately 800 cannabis plants were seized along with 7kgs of herbal cannabis with a total estimated street value of up to E400,000. Two males aged 31 and 42 were arrested at the scene and are currently being detained at Dundalk Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice ( Drug Trafficking ) Act 1996. http://www.build.ie/national_news.asp?newsid=136082
