UK: Drugs were used to help cure headaches after fall

Berwick Advertiser

Friday 09 Dec 2011

BERWICK magistrates fined a Wooler man a total of £255 after he pleaded guilty to three charges of possession of drugs.

Michael McMahon of Oliver Road was also ordered to pay £170 costs and a £15 surcharge.

The prosecution said McMahon, who is 25, was arrested on November 10 after police found him with a quantity of cannabis resin.

When they later searched his house they found around 40 valium tablets in his bedroom.

Eight days later he was arrested again when police carried out another search of the property with a warrant and found a quantity of cannabis in a tobacco tin.

In mitigation, defence solicitor Adam Scott said the drugs was of a reasonably small amount and were for personal use.

The defendant suffered from severe headaches after suffering a bad fall and this was his way of dealing with the pain.
