Malaysia: Thai woman nabbed for drugs

ALOR SETAR: Police arrested a 29-year-old Thai woman for smuggling 17.4kg cannabis at a bus terminal in Jalan Shahab 2 here.

The Thai woman was waiting to board a bus to Kuala Lumpur when a Kedah Narcotics Department team picked her up following a tip-off at 8.15pm on Fri-day.

Kedah police chief DCP Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said the team inspected her two bags and found the cannabis hidden among her clothes.

"Based on the stamps on her passport, this was the first time she had entered the country.

"We are investigating if she was being used as a drug mule," he said.

He added that the cannabis had a street value of RM43,200.

DCP Ahmad said the woman has been remanded pending investigations
