UK: Coventry drug user told to quit cannabis - or face prison

A CANNABIS user who has been smoking the drug for more than a decade has avoided a prison sentence after he set up a drug factory in his loft.

When police raided Stuart Campbell's home in February they found £1,000 of bagged up leaf cannabis and £2,200 in cash.

They also discovered 30 cannabis seedlings growing in his loft.

Campbell, of Longford Road, Longford, Coventry, had tried to claim that the huge drugs haul was for his personal use, despite the fact that scales and plastic bags were found in the property.

But when the case came to Coventry Crown Court he pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis with intent to supply and the production of cannabis.

Mark Heywood, defending, said: "He appears to be a much stronger person than he is. He is much more vulnerable."

Judge Trevor Faber opted to suspend a 12-month prison sentence for two years, while ordering him to complete an 18-month supervision order and a thinking skills course.

He said: "You are 36 years of age. You are a mature man.

"It appears to me that you have been using cannabis habitually since the early 90s and nothing has persuaded you to stop it. You will stop it now."
