UK: Man sent cannabis through post

A MAN who had been beating his drug addiction has been spared jail after a slip-up.

Ross White, 36, sent a three-quarters of an ounce lump of cannabis through the post to a friend in Lymington.

A postman smelt the distinctive aroma coming from the recorded delivery package and reported it to his bosses and police were called, Winchester Crown Court was told.

White, of Ewell Way, Totton, pleaded guilty to supplying cannabis.

Charles Gabb, mitigating, said White had made strong efforts to tackle heroin addiction and had been clean for some nine years before a relapse.

Sentencing, Judge Keith Cutler, the Recorder of Winchester, imposed a community order for a year with 80 hours' unpaid work.
