UK: Cannabis was grown by man for personal use

Lincolnshire Echo

Thursday 05 Jan 2012

A man was caught growing his own cannabis after police carried out a search of his home, Lincoln Crown Court was told.

Lee Callahan had earlier been stopped by police who found a bag of cannabis inside his car.

Phil Howes, prosecuting, said that officers then went to Callahan's home where they found four cannabis plants growing. The cannabis was for the use of Callahan and his wife.

"It wasn't sophisticated. It was low grade cannabis for their own use," said Mr Howes.

Callahan of Birthorpe Road, Billingborough, admitted charges of cultivating cannabis and illegal possession of the drug.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £100 costs.

Judge Sean Morris told him: "Remember that cannabis is against the law. If you come back before me again I am not going to show you any mercy."

Stephen Alford, defending, said the couple had suffered a tragedy which led Callahan's wife to use cannabis as a way of dealing with the situation.
