UK: Guernsey: Couple jailed for smuggling cannabis

A COUPLE who tried to smuggle drugs to the Channel Islands after catching a ferry from Weymouth with a disabled child have been jailed.

Beverley Jayne Hartwell-Beninson, 33, and her partner Michael Tomlinson, 23, were both sentenced to two years’ jail for the importation of 176.83 grams of cannabis resin and six months imprisonment for the importation of the 15.43 grams of herbal cannabis, to run concurrently.

Guernsey Royal Court heard passengers arriving on the island from Weymouth on August 31 last year were examined by a drug detector dog.

The search revealed the couple had concealed the drugs. and they later admitted the charges.
