Malaysia: Nigerian charged with trafficking cannabis

SUNGAI PETANI: A Nigerian man was charged at the Magistrate Court here today with trafficking 6,820gm of cannabis at an express bus terminal in Pekan Lama here last month.

Pius Emmanual David, 25, was charged under Section 39B(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

He is alleged to have committed the offence at about 9.15pm on Jan 25.

However, no plea was recorded.

Magistrate Mohd Khairul Hafizuddin Ramli fixed March 26 for remention pending the chemist's report.

David, who was represented by lawyer, K.T. Jayaraj, was denied bail.

His four-month pregnant wife, Yang Ping, 28, who hails from China, was present at the court. -- BERNAMA
