Ireland: Cannabis found in pocket grinder
Corkman.ie Thursday 02 Feb 2012 Edmund Finn of 14 Linden Hill, Mitchelstown appeared before last Friday's sitting of Fermoy District Court on a single charge of drug possession. Inspector Tony O'sullivan told the court that 22-year-old Finn had been arrested following a disturbance in the town on the night January 17 last. "During a subsequent search at Fermoy garda station the defendant was found to be in possession of a grinder with traces of a herbal substance on it," said the inspector. "He did not make an admission on the night but the substance later tested positive for cannabis." The inspector pointed out that Finn had 15 previous convictions for offences including drug possession, assault and public order. "This would be his second conviction for possession of cannabis," said the inspector. Judge Olann Kelleher told Finn solicitor Ciarain O'keeffe that a further conviction for cannabis possession could very easily result in his client being jailed under the so called 'three strikes and you're out' rule. "On this occasion I will convict and impose a fine of €300. Tell your client that if he is convicted for the same offence again he could well face 12-months in prison," he said to Mr O'keeffe. http://www.corkman.ie/news/cannabis-found-in-pocket-grinder-3008376.html
