Cyprus: Drug dealing Orthodox church chanter gets four years in prison

AN ORTHODOX chanter (psaltis) was sentenced to four years imprisonment by Larnaca Criminal Court yesterday for growing cannabis plants with intent to sell among other offences.

Demetris Mastrou, 50, admitted to possession of 57 cannabis plants and 495 grammes of cannabis with the intent to sell it.

Drugs squad YKAN arrested him at the start of January after they seized 57 cannabis plants and 495 grammes of cannabis, along with weighing scales from his home in Liopetri, Famagusta.
