Scotland: Grandmother of six Noelene Edwards tells Downing Centre Court cannabis isn't hers Peter Bodkin Perth Now Friday 10 Feb 2012 The 74-year-old was this afternoon convicted of dealing cannabis following a hearing at the Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney. Mrs Edwards told the court she had no idea how 42 small bags of the drug got in her handbag and she had never used or sold the drug. But magistrate Clare Farnan found the Surry Hills pensioner knew the cannabis was in her handbag as she tried to hide its contents when police questioned her. She said the only reason the drugs would have been packed in sachets was if Mrs Edwards planned to sell them. Mrs Edwards had pleaded not guilty to supply and possession of nearly 38g of cannabis, which police found on her in June last year. Police stopped the elderly woman in a drug-dog operation on George St in the Sydney CBD. The court heard a bong was found under a sink in a search of the house she had shared with her recently deceased partner of 30 years. But Mrs Edwards told the court the drug device belonged to her defacto partner and he had only smoked marijuana for a few months before he died to ease the pain of terminal lung cancer. She was given a two-year good behaviour bond. http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/national/grandmother-of-six-noelene-edwards-tells-downing-centre-court-cannabis-isnt-hers/story-e6frg15u-1226268141590
