Malaysia: Lorry driver gets eight years and rotan for drugs
The Star, Malaysia Tuesday 14 Feb 2012 Ainuddin Abu, 31, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a RM20,000 fine and a five-year jail term or both. He was initially charged under Section 39b(1)(a) of the same Act, which carries the death sentence. For the alternative charge, he was found in possession of 215.45gm of cannabis at PT Talibek junction in Pontian at around 4.30am on Jun 4 last year. He was also found in possession of 3.04gm of cannabis at the same place, date and time, while he faced a third charge for having tested positive for drugs. Ainuddin was charged under Section 6 of the Act for the second charge and Section 15(1)(a) for the third charge. Justice Datuk Abd Halim Aman sentenced Ainuddin to three years in prison for the second charge and one year for the third charge.
