UK: 'Cannabis factory' trio to stand trial Trusted article source icon

Somerset Standard

Thursday 16 Feb 2012

Three men accused of running a cannabis factory at an address in Frome have been ordered to stand trial at Taunton Crown Court.

Sinan Burgaz, 31, of Surrey Road, Bournemouth, Ali Karadag, 32, of Richmond Park Road, Bournemouth, and Ozan Toprak, 27, of Stowe Place, London, appeared in the dock together before South Somerset magistrates.

They were all jointly charged with producing 493 cannabis plants at an address in Frome between May 24, 2010, and December 22, 2010.

No pleas were entered.

Julyan Stephens, prosecuting, said that after discovering the cannabis plants growing at the address, forensic examination carried out by the police linked all three defendants to the scene.

Magistrates said the matter was so serious that it should be dealt with at the crown court as they did not feel they had sufficient powers of punishment.

The case was adjourned until April 12 when committal proceedings are expected to take place. The defendants were released on unconditional bail.
