US: Missoula Toddler Now Cancer-Free Melissa Luck KXLY.com Thursday 23 Feb 2012 We first profiled Cashy back in April 2011. He had just beat cancer the first time, despite a terrible prognosis. Cashy had a Stage IV tumor wrapped around his optic nerve. He did several rounds of high-dose chemo, but while the drugs were killing the cancer, they were making Cashy terribly sick. He didn't eat for weeks. Finally, his father Mike took matters into his own hands. Without telling doctors, he began giving his son cannabis oil through his feeding tube. Cashy was able to eat again and finished his chemo without anti-nausea medications. After months of treatment, the tumor was gone and Cashy was back home with his family in Missoula. Cashy's story made headlines around the world. His case became a rallying cry for the benefits of medical marijuana. But, while advocates were debating its benefits, Cashy's tumor returned. His family spent Christmas in California, so that Cashy could get radiation treatments on his brain. This week, Cashy was in Salt Lake for scans and his family would finally know if all that treatment worked. Thursday, they got the news. Mike Hyde sent a simple Facebook message Thursday morning, saying "We just received the results from cashys MRI. He is cancer free and in remission!" Cashy's story will no doubt continue to inspire and spur debate. But, this little boy will go back to being a kid. He's back in Missoula with his mom, dad and his big brother Colty. And, there's more joy to be had in the Hyde household; Cashy will become a big brother later this year. http://www.kxly.com/news/30529342/detail.html
