UK: Cannabis factory discovered in Newhaven

The Argus

Tuesday 13 Mar 2012

A cannabis factory filled with up to £80,000 of plants was discovered after a break-in.

Neighbours in Hanson Road, Newhaven, called police at about 1am on Sunday after hearing noises at the back of the three-storey house. Officers discovered 168 cannabis plants in a top-floor bedroom but found they had already been harvested.

They estimate about eight kilos of cannabis had recently been stripped from the plants leaving just the roots.

A kilo of cannabis has a street value of between £8,000 and £10,000. Officers said there was evidence of forced entry to the back of the house and found the factory in the master bedroom on the third floor.

Neighbours said the house has been rented out for the past few years.

Detective Inspector Ian Williams from East Sussex CID said: "Officers are continuing with forensic examinations and making house-to-house inquiries."
