Scotland: Eighteen months for Skelmersdale man who grew cannabis in his home Lynda Roughley Ormskirk and Slekmersdale Advertiser Thursday 15 Mar 2012 Adam McBrinn claimed he had been cultivating the drug just for his own use but after hearing evidence from him a judge rejected his version of events. Recorder Paul Reid, QC, told 25-year-old McBrinn, of Beechtrees, who has a previous conviction for possessing ecstasy with intent to supply, that he believed he would have used some but sold the rest. "You do not seem to have learnt from your previous conviction," he said. Jonathan Clarke, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court that on July 31 last year, McBrinn attended Skelmersdale police station about an unrelated matter but was arrested. His home, then in Lyndhurst, was searched and in a bedroom a sophisticated cannabis cultivation system was found. This involved a tent containing 35 plants, reflective walls, suspended high powered lighting units, an oscillating fan and dehumidifier. After some of the plants were analysed it was estimated that the drugs had a street value of £4,100, said Mr Clarke. McBrinn told the court that he set up the operation, having bought the equipment online, after an accident which left him in severe pain. He was already a cannabis smoker but he used the drug more to alleviate the pain. McBrinn was sentenced on Friday. http://www.osadvertiser.co.uk/news/skelmersdale-news/2012/03/15/eighteen-months-for-skelmersdale-man-who-grew-cannabis-in-his-home-80904-30531949/
