UK: Cannabis factory with more than 500 plants found inside Northampton town centre home
Northampton Chronicle Saturday 24 Mar 2012 Officers from the Northampton Central Sector Safer Community Team uncovered the cannabis factory after they raided a property in Portland Place, behind Wellingborough Road. To enable the production of cannabis the mains electric had been bypassed with signs that small fires had been caused by high voltage cables passing through wood. A 27-year-old man was arrested at the property taken to Campbell Square Police Station for questioning. A police spokesman said: "After forcing entry to the property, officers discovered a large and sophisticated cannabis factory which had been set up throughout the house. "More than 500 plants were recovered from the address together with lighting and ventilation equipment. "The dangers associated with the commercial production of cannabis were apparent. "The mains electric had been bypassed with signs that small fires had been caused by high voltage cables passing through wood. "This obviously presented a serious hazard." The Misuse of Drugs Act warrant was carried out on Thursday following a tip-off from a member of the local community. The police spokesman said: "We urge anyone with information or suspicions of drugs misuse in their area to contact us. "Tell-tale signs of cannabis factories include windows permanently covered, a pungent smell, visits at unusual times of day or a vent protruding through the roof, or a rear window." http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/news/cannabis-factory-with-more-than-500-plants-found-inside-northampton-town-centre-home-1-3662766
