NI: Accused had cannabis to ease pain, court told

An alleged drug dealer discovered with a cannabis package bought it as treatment for his own punishment attack pains, the High Court has been told.

Injuries inflicted on Shane McFall's knees 20 years ago left him struggling to carry out basic tasks, a judge heard.

The 40-year-old is charged with possessing the drug with intent to supply after being stopped in a car outside his Fairmount Park home in Dungannon on April 6.

A package containing herbal cannabis valued at £280 was recovered from him, along with £570 in cash. Officers also seized eight phones and £915 from his house.

Prosecution counsel Barry Valentine told a bail hearing McFall admitted buying the drugs to use himself.

The accused said the money was to pay for a holiday.

Mr Valentine alleged, however, that the drugs could be divided into 14 separate bags and sold at £20 each.

Counsel for McFall stressed there was no intent to supply.

Bail was granted after the judge held that the risk of re-offending could be managed.
